Abderahmani lives with his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister. His parents struggle to provide for the family. His father is a farm laborer and his mother is a farm laborer. Despite their efforts, it is difficult to meet the family's needs.

Abderahmani is growing up in M’Bout, in southern Mauritania, near the border with Senegal. Despite the presence of a large lake nearby, it’s an arid region covered with small thorny bushes. Most people make a living growing vegetable gardens and crops and raising livestock. The area doesn’t have enough basic services like hospitals, schools, and job training centers to serve everyone. Families remain stuck in poverty without sufficient access to education, clean water, or income opportunities that would help them change their situations. And when families can’t make enough to support themselves, kids suffer from poor nutrition. As well, M’Bout doesn’t have enough schools or trained teachers to serve all the students, and there is no formal child protection system to keep children safe from abuse or exploitation.

Partnering with local and national leaders, we’ll make sure all kids get registered for birth certificates so they can have more opportunities for their futures. With your support, families will become more stable as parents learn more ways to protect their children, provide for them well, and prioritize education.
