Bontle lives in Menoaneng, a rural community situated in the highlands of Lesotho. The area’s steep terrain creates challenges for agriculture, with barren mountains and limited access to clean water.The livelihoods of families in this community depend on small-stock farming (mainly sheep) and the sale of mohair (a type of goat’s hair). However, a lack of grazing management skills and land rehabilitation training hinders sustainable farming. Food insecurity plagues the region, exacerbated by low agricultural productivity and limited knowledge of modern farming practices.Additionally, inadequate water access and sanitation facilities impact the community’s hygiene. There is a high dropout rate, particularly among boys who are often prevented from attending school as they assume sheep-herding roles. Child marriages and underreported instances of sexual offenses further highlight the need for comprehensive community development. Your sponsorship commitment will help Bontle and her community address these issues and be equipped for a better and brighter future.

Your sponsorship commitment will help Bontle and her community get better access to resources and support that will empower them to break the cycles of poverty. We strive to alleviate food insecurity by empowering the community with economic opportunities and implementing a Savings for Transformation model to establish savings and credit mechanisms. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty by ensuring families have the capital and resources to develop businesses, improve food security, and build a more prosperous community. Additionally, we aim to equip the community with sustainable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) through collaborative efforts with the Department of Rural Water Supply and implementing partners. We'll establish and train water committees, develop piped water schemes, and implement hygiene awareness interventions in schools and households. We also aim to eradicate early child marriages by engaging in sensitization campaigns, facilitating dialogues, and strengthening the capacity of faith leaders. Through various activities like identifying and supporting vulnerable children and improving school infrastructure, we will help the community overcome barriers to education and improve school attendance. Together, we strive to create a brighter future for all children in the community.
