Caroline Eipa lives with her parents and 1 brother. Her parents struggle to provide for the family. Her father is unemployed and her mother is unemployed. Despite their efforts, it is difficult to meet the family's needs.

Caroline Eipa is growing up in a flat, dry, rural region of Kenya, where people have traditionally made a living with livestock like camels, donkeys, sheep, and others. In recent decades, short rainy seasons and increasing deforestation have caused recurring drought, making it hard for farmers to raise thriving herds. Almost nine in ten people in Kalapata live in poverty. Kalapata’s remoteness means families must travel long distances to water sources, healthcare services, and schools. Kids suffer from poor health, and most people can’t read or write. It’s more common for children to help their families earn a living than to go to school, and girls especially are kept from school because they’re often married young to bring their parents a dowry.

Your sponsorship commitment will help Caroline Eipa gain access to more clean water sources closer her home. Working with partners, we’ll help more community members get the health services they need, like vaccinations and care for pregnant mothers. Families will be supported with job skills training and opportunities to help them earn a more stable living, so they can lift themselves and their children out of poverty—for good.
